2007 Artists in Business Seminars
Through the Art in Public Places program, participating artists were invited to attend a full day workshops over two days that covered areas such as:
- Business basics – an introduction to tax, insurance, risk management and copyright.
- Building relationships with clients, commercial galleries and artist – run spaces.
- Going to market – documenting artwork and building a client base
- Promotion and media relations.
The workshops consisted on an interactive panel discussion and opportunities for Q &A sessions with each of the presenters. Each participant received an information kit containing fact sheets and guides to specialist service providers.

Guy Abrahams, Director, Christine Abrahams Gallery and President of the Australian Commercial Galleries Association.
Julie Collins, Contemporary Sculptors Association and artist.
Emma Mathews, Education and Public Programs Coordinator, Monash Gallery of Art.
Prue Venables, Artist and President of Craft Victoria.
The feedback from the artists involved in the AbaF Artists Business Seminars was excellent. Furthermore the skills and knowledge the participating artists have gained is invaluable and will enable the artists to further their artistic careers in an informed and sustainable direction.
